Birth of a demon

The evening was quiet, and the human realm was warm, the summer sun just setting on the world, twilight drawing in. A little cottage was sat out in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of a forest, away from civilisation. But, that was how the owners intended it. The world was looking for them, and they wanted to hide away unbeknown to the world and its people.

Salazar the incubus was stood by the window, watching the glorious sunset. His bronze on black eyes were gentle and enchanted as he watched the golden orb vanish below the landline; he never got tired of the event. When you have been raised in the demon realm, and spent so many years under an eternal sun, the glory of a mortal sunset never lost its charm.

He was a handsome demon, with lavender skin, two proud horns sticking up from black hair, and large leathery wings that folded elegantly along his back. He wore nothing but a dark loincloth still, despite the far colder temperature here in the moral world. He ran a hand through his hair and turned, his eyes falling on the other demon in the room.

His mate was sat in a chair, her unusual lilac eyes on Salazar lovingly, as she sat there. Forleyn was petit and pretty, a half demon by birth and therefore rare. She had had a master demon father, whereas her mother had been human, and the mixed genes had created Forleyn.

He moved over to her and cupped her chin, tilting her head back and kissed her lips gently. He felt her shiver slightly beneath his touch, despite that fact he wasn't even touching her with his aura. He smiled and then looked down into her arms.

Their new born son was sleeping fitfully, his little body curled into his mother's arms and chest, his tiny body rising and falling with each gentle breath he took. His skin was like a mottled purple, with patches of red glowing through more in places than others, showing his mixed heritage. His body was devoid of any horns or wings for the moment; he was only a few days old.

Salazar put a clawed finger down and stroked his son's arm gently, smiling loving down at the baby. Forleyn smiled too, looking up at her mate. She knew she had been lucky. Salazar loved her with his entire heart, and though he still had to seek other women to use to Feed, she knew that there was no other for him. Just her. It filled her with a warm glow to think of.

Salazar smiled as his son gripped his claw in his own tiny talonless hand, and the incubus sighed contently.

The peaceful setting was not to last.

There was suddenly a bang and the front door was thrown off its hinges, blasted inwards. Salazar straightened in a flash and growled. "She found us," he said quietly and Forleyn closed her eyes with a whimper. The incubus snarled softly and then pulled Forleyn to her feet, and pushed her towards the bedroom. "Go," he said softly, and as she began to protest, he pulled her close and kissed her deeply. She relaxed as she was filled with liquid music, and his love. He released her and pressed his horned brow to hers. "Now go, I'll hold her off and find you later," he said and she turned, moving away reluctantly.

Salazar turned and stalked into the hallway to face the intruder, hellfire blazing around him. Before him was stood a figure, dressed in a black hood cloak, tattered along the bottom hem. It was clearly a woman, average in size and curvaceous, with long black hair falling from the hood to her chest. As her head came back, two magenta eyes met Salazar's bronze. All around her was a chilling aura, and black shadows were creeping from round her feet, filling the hall.

"Hello Salazar," her voice was soft but powerful, cold and deadly. Salazar's eyes narrowed.

"Shadow mage," he growled in response and she made a wounded noise.

"You know, I much prefer Celenia," she said, and the shadows around her increased slightly. But she waved a surprisingly clawed hand dismissively, "But that is irrelevant. Where is your son, incubus?" she asked and Salazar flared his wings slightly.

"That is of no concern of yours, mage," he hissed, his bronze eyes narrowing and the hellfire around him increasing. Celenia raised an eyebrow.

"Well, if you won't tell me where he is, then I have no further use for you," she said in a deadly tone. Salazar's wings flared as the bolts of dark magic suddenly shot at him, burning through his hellfire and striking his chest. Agony ripped through him and looking down at his chest, he saw the gaping hole leading to his heart. His knees gave way and he fell to them, his body limp and disbelieving, then slumping to the floor. He felt the shadow mage step over him, her tattered cloak drifting over him.

"It would have been easier to just let me kill him, Salazar." she said walking through his house, seeking out his mate. Salazar tried to push himself up, but couldn't get his limbs to move. He closed his eyes.

Run, Forleyn, my love,"

Forleyn's eyes widened as her mate's mind fell away from her own, and she scrambled to grab hold of it, but the shadow magic forced her back. She gasped and clutched her son to her tightly.

She had made it into the bedroom and the door was locked, but against the shadow mage, it would make no difference. She thought about how Salazar and her had left the demon realm to protect their son, too many wanted him on their side, this powerhouse of difference magics, and they had seen only the option of running away with him. Only when they got to the mortal realm did the shadow mage come into the equation.

The baby in her arms began to cry and she shushed him softly. "There now, there's no need to cry, my love," she whispered, though she didn't know where there was left to run. She closed her eyes.

She could hear the mage walking up the stairs, hear the thump of boots on the wooden stairs. She had heard tales that Celenia had a dragon form, that she enjoyed using clawed hands as her weapons, far better than any blade of steel or iron. Combined with her magic, there was no escaping her.

Forleyn looked down into her son's softly mewling face and stroked his cheek with the curve of her claw. She looked at the tuft of white hair he had inherited from her mother's side of the family, and sighed, her lilac eyes loving still, and gentle.

"Hush now, my baby,
Be still love, don't cry,
Sleep as you're rocked by the stream,
Sleep and remember, my last lullaby,
I'll be with you, when you dream,"

She sung to him softly, and kissed his head gently. The sound of the boots was getting closer, and she swiftly wrapped a spell around her now sleeping son. She hugged him tightly for a moment, then moved to his crib, setting him down in it, and opening the window.

She turned as there was a blast of shadow magic, the force of it chilling the room to freezing point. Forleyn took a deep breath and balled her fists, as the hooded form of Celenia stalked in. The mage cocked her head and made a noise.

"Aw," she mocked, "How sweet," she sneered as Forleyn took up a defensive position in front of her son. The demoness growled lowly.

"You have already taken my mate from me, and now you seek to take my son too?" she said, shaking with grief over Salazar's death. She drew on her combined mortal and demon magic, "I will not allow you to have him, shadow mage!" she snapped, unleashing the bolts of magic.

Far from doing the damage that she hoped for, Celenia simply waved a clawed hand and dismissed the spells, darting forwards and slamming a taloned fist into Forleyn's gut, the claws encased with a shadowy ice.

The demoness' eyes went wide as the shadow mage ripped out her intestines in one foul swoop, sending agony ricocheting through her. She fell to the floor, blood pooling around her. The mage crouched down and her magenta eyes narrowed. "Like I told your mate, you should have just let me kill him," she hissed as Forleyn's eyes lost the light and her body went limp. The shadow mage stood, and stepped over the now dead demoness, moving towards the crib.

She reached it and picked up the baby demon, her eyes blazing with power. "You condemned both your parents to death, you know that child? Had they just handed you over, they needn't have died," she purred and the baby began to cry. She shushed him, "I will be quick, you won't feel a thing," she whispered, baring a claw and resting it over the baby's little throat, preparing to slit it, and end his young life there and then.

Suddenly a blast of power hit her arm, knocking her claw away. In her surprise she spun to look out of the open window, and was met in the chest by another bolt of magic. In her sudden shock and surprise, she dropped the baby, the tiny body falling out the window-

Only to be caught in strong red skinned arms. Celenia snarled and moved back to the window, looking at the demon below. He was tall, gracing eight foot tall, with two huge majestic horns rising from his brow, his long black hair pulled back from his face in a simple pony tail. His eyes were deep amber, almost orange, mounted on black sclera.

"Calebriaen!" she snapped, and the demon lord looked at her, cradling the child.

"You will not have him this day, shadow mage," the demon said smoothly, his powerful voice ringing through the night air. "I am only saddened that I did not get here sooner." he admitted. "His parents did not deserve to die in that way."

"They would not hand him over. And if neither will you, then you will meet the same fate," the shadow mage hissed, and Calebriaen shrugged.

"We'll see." he said, then turned away. The baby in his arms began to cry again, and the demon lord sensed Celenia drawing on her shadows to teleport and intercept him. He held the baby closer and then wrapped hellfire around himself, teleporting away.

As he reappeared in his palace, he looked down at the child, who was still crying softly. "I know, little one, I know. But crying won't bring them back." He rocked the baby gently, as he strode through his halls, the lesser demons bowing as he passed.

"You will avenged them when you are older my boy. I will ensure that you live up to your name," he whispered.

"Blasphet."
Yay, I rediscovered my shadow mage! :la:

Anyways, Blasphet's traumatic birth. Poor little guy. I have the next bit after this in my head, which will explain how he got all the claw marks etc, but you will have to wait a while for that.

I have a list of other things requesting my attention. :D

Enjoy anyways, XP

You'll wanna put something in notes saying the lullaby doesn't belong to you, just a warning.

Interesting past ^^ nice to learn more about it.
